Supervision
Clinical Supervision traditionally has been a requirement for psychotherapists since the 1920's, during both training and for ongoing professional development (CPD). It maintains accountability and encourages and develops self-reflection ensuring that therapists remain flexible and creative (Grant and Schofield, 2007).
Whilst there are various definitions regarding what constitutes Clinical Supervision, it can be viewed as a working alliance with restorative elements that provide support, for example in alleviating the supervisee's stress within their particular professional context, together with an educative, or formative function concerned with the development of skills and increased knowledge, and a normative element focusing on managerial and professional standards (Jones, 1998 cited in Bowles and Young, 1999).
Clinical Supervision therefore provides a supportive environment where Therapists can discuss their clinical cases within a collaborative process whereby the two parties (the Therapist and the Supervisor) work together to explore the therapy work the Therapist is undertaking. This ensures that the clients the Therapist is working with receive the best and safest care possible.
I will take time to understand where you are in your clinical career, and what your learning and development goals for the future are. Whether you are in training, working towards accreditation as a CBT practitioner, or alternatively as a Therapist/Counsellor with an interest in the principles and practice of CBT, or perhaps as a Therapist wishing to enhance skillls and development and/or increase your knowledge base. I can offer Clinical Supervision within a safe and nurturing environment in which you can develop your practice for the benefit of your clients.
